First of all, I love this year’s theme. The theme is Camp, which can basically be described as over-the-top, extravagant outfits. It’s based off Susan Sontag’s 1984 essay, “Notes on ‘Camp’.”  I can’t continue without acknowledging the fact that Black drag queens played a big role in the idea of Camp. Lena Waithe wore a custom Pyer Moss tuxedo with the words, “Black Drag Queens Invented Camp” written on the back. If you look closely, the lyrics of Diana Ross’s, “I’m Coming Out” and Gloria Gaynor’s, “I will Survive” are stitched on as the pinstripes!

Also, champ just means lame. There were many people who showed up like they were going to prom. I’m pretty sure I lost five years off my life every time I saw someone show up in a black suit. We will refer to those people as, “those who must not be named.” (Get the reference??) Anyways, here is a list of my 10 favorite looks from the 2019 Met Gala in no specific order!

1. Billy Porter
~This look was absolutely stunning from the use of the men and props to all the beautiful gold detailing. Porter was wearing a gold bodysuit that had impressive gold wings! He was styled by The Blonds.~

2. Lady Gaga
~4 Outfits?? Only Lady Gaga. She is known for her extravagant, out of the box outfits. If she didn’t do something amazing, I would be so disappointed. Gaga arrived in a massive pink dress by Brandon Maxwell, then stripped to a black gown, then to a pink slip dress, then to a black sparkly bra and panties.~

3. Cardi B
~Cardi definitely outdid last year’s look! She dressed as one giant menstrual clot…that’s something you don’t see everyday. Designed by Thom Browne, Cardi rocked this dress that took more than 2,000 hours to construct!~

4. Janelle Monae
~Now this is definitely camp! To be honest, I’m still noticing things I didn’t see before! You can’t see it but she has red lips attached to her hair! Even the eye blinks! Janelle was styled by Alexandra Mandelkorn.~

5. Ezra Miller
~This look had me so confused, which made me love it even more. I couldn’t tell which eyes were his, but I think I figured it out. It should be the second from the bottom! And I loved the touch of carrying a face with him. Ezra was styled by Burberry’s Riccardo Tisci.~

6. Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas
~This is more about Priyanka because I’m not going to lie, Nick Jonas looks like Lord Baelish from Game of Thrones. (I still love him though!) Anyways, I’m loving the color, her dress length, the use of feathers, and her crown! It’s also nice how Nick compliments her dress with the white suit with specs of silver in his fit. Priyanka wore a dress by Dior~

7. Lupita Nyong’o
~Wow. What a dress. The use of color and different patterns was incredible and I love the shoulders! I can only imagine how soft that material must feel. Also, if you look closely, Lupita has golden picks in her afro, which is a really nice touch! Lupita wore a custom Versace dress~

8. Zendaya and Law Roach (her designer)
~What can I say? Such a dreamy look. The fact that the dress was chosen because her days of doing Disney were over and she could be a Disney princess one last time makes a tear come to my eye. I love how it actually looks like the dress from Cinderella with a touch of technology (it lights up). She even put on a little show by leaving her one of her heels on the steps. Zendaya was styled by Law Roach and wore a Tommy Hilfiger dress~

9. Cara Delevingne
~Soooo many colors! In the nicest way possible, she looks like a rainbow colored candy cane! I love it and the use of the actual colored cane! On her head, is a bunch of bananas, eyes, and joke teeth. I also love the lone orange stripe across her face! Cara was wearing Dior Haute Couture~

10. Hamish Bowles
~Can’t deny this is totally camp! The use of colors, feather, length, and graphics is just giving me life. He wasn’t afraid to test boundaries and that’s exactly what camp is. I expect nothing less from the European Editor-at-large of Vogue! Hamish wore a cape by Maison Margiela~

This is my first time ever talking about fashion, so don’t judge me too harsh haha! Let me know if you want me to talk about fashion more in the future or if I should never do this again because I’m terrible at it…
